My good high school friend, Mikaela Hochstrosser Griggs, posted this on her blog. Among other things we had in common back our high school days, we both had names that required frequent spelling and pronunciation. Upon getting married, I surrendered the spelling and pronunciation issues for my much simpler current name which I'm betting can't be especially uncommon...
Nope! But what about Erin Nokleby (my maiden name)?
BINGO! Not too many of those running around - the USA at least! I was surprised though to see that there are 518 Noklebys in the United States and that Nokleby is statistically the 48,525th (ha!) most popular. Honestly, sometimes I miss having an original, quirky last name. It was good for nicknames (not all of them nice) and it made me unique - even though no one could spell it, they never forgot it! I think I'll stick with the nice, neat little name I have now though...or maybe I should make my kids hyphenate! Now wouldn't that be cruel!?
